I am a student at Nottingham Trent University in my first year, at my uni there is a weekly event at a students only club called Ocean in Nottingham. This event is for NTU students only and the idea of it is that students go to the event with their society or sports club dressed up in their chosen theme. I had heard about Ocean from some of my friends and I was really excited to go when I started at NTU, I chose to join Fashion Society and Gymnastics, but I have always gone with gymnastics as I have good friends there. I wanted to show you all of the themes we have had in my first term at NTU and how I have created my outfits for each and maybe give you inspo if you ever dress up as one of these themes. I'm going to also include photos with other people in my society so you can see other people interpretations for inspiration.

The first one we had was 'Back to School' which was very appropriate as we had just started the new year at uni. I didn't want to go for the basic white shirt and skirt outfit so I chose to wear this outfit, I wore my grey checked blazer from Zara, white crop top from PLT, black pencil skirt from PLT, white knee high socks from Champion, Nike Air Force 1, striped tie from a costume shop called Luvyababes in Nottingham and a black tie headband from Primark, completed with my yellow shoulder bag from Zara.

Our next weeks theme was 'Firemen and Cats' where freshers were cats. I went very basic on this outfit I can't lie to you. I wore a plain black one shoulder crop top from Topshop, paired with plain black short from Luvyababes, which you will see a lot in these outfits oops. To make this a cat outfit I of course had to get some cat ears and a tail, I got these from Luvyababes and I completed the outfit with a black belt from Primark, this was what I attached my tail to and the tail actually made it through the whole night so highly recommend. And I of course had to draw on some whiskers and a nose to complete the cat look.

Our next theme was 'Pyjama Party', unfortunetly I didn't get many good photos from this night of my outfit. I usually just wear my boyfriends t-shirts to bed so I had to go and buy some actual PJs for this week. I found this gorgoues pink button up, silk pyjama shirt from Topshop and paired this with my classic black shorts from Luvyababes and added a black headband from Claires, I did really want an eye mask but I couldn't find one I liked in time, so this wasn't my favourite outfit but it was definitly comfy.

The following weeks theme was 'Emergency Services' where you could dress up as any emergency service department. After a long debate me and my friends chose to go as Police. We went for a classic outfit for this week, I wore a black bandue from PLT, black shorts from Luvyababes, connected them with my white suspenders from Luvyababes as I wanted to add something to my plain outfit and then they actually ended up being the perfect place to attach my handcuffs to, also from Luvyababes and then completed the outfit with a Police cap to ensure people knew what I was, but.... this didn't work out as I actually lost my hat and handcuffs at pres so I went on the rest of the night in just an all black outfit, until I stole someone elses doctors coat and stethoscope and became a doctor for the rest of the night, got to improvise sometimes.

The next week was actually halloween so our theme was 'Dead Circus' and me and my friends decided we would go as dead clowns. To create this outfit I wore a corset top from Urban Outfitters, black shorts from Luvyababes, covered by a red tutu also from Luvyababes and completed the look with a dripping blood chocker from Topshop as we were meant to be 'dead' clowns. To make me look more like a clown I painted on the diamond around my eyes as this is what I usually think of when thinking of clown makeup, I also added some dripping blood from my eye and mouth, again to look 'dead'. We also chose to put part our hair into two little pony tails to look more circus.

As this blog is all about costumes I thought I would also include my actual halloween costume. I went quite basic on this outfit, I went as a 'Dead bride'. For this outfit I just wore a simple white silk dress from Oh Polly which sinched up the sides and had bows on the sleeves which I felt looked quite bridal. I added a white veil from Luvyababes and blood chocker from Topshop to finish the outfit. As it was halloween I wanted to look at least a tiny bit scary so I added bruises to my forehead and under eye using makeup, I also added some fake blood to look more injured.

Me and my friends actually decided to miss the next week but the theme was 'Hunt or be hunted' where we were meant to dress up as foxes but we needed a week off.

The next weeks theme was 'Fruit and Veg' where freshers had to be veg so me and my friend decided we would be carrots. We thought to just get an all orange outfit and green something in our hair. For my outfit I chose a orange bikini top from PLT, I got a bikini top as I have found that they are a lot more supportive than the normal crop tops, I paired this with a plain neon orange pencil skirt also from PLT and completed the look with a green ribbon in my hair, acting as the leaves at the top of a carrot. This idea basically works for any fruit or veg, just wear the colour outfit with the green ribbon, for example a red dress for tomato.

The next week we were given the theme 'Ninjas' which I was very unsure of at first as I didn't know how we would pull this outfit off without buying I really expensive costume but we DIYed our own. I started the outfit with a plain black, high neck bodysuit from Zara and of course the classic black shorts from Luvyababes, but to make this all black outfit actually look like a ninja we accessorised with red ribbon, I used a thick piece of ribbon around my waist and a thinner piece around my leg, which did keep falling off so I ended up cutting it in half and putting it around my wrists, I also added a red bandana around my head to complete the look which I brought from a market in Nottingham at a craft stall. We also stole someone elses blow up swords for the photos which are a great accessory to the outfit.

For our final Ocean Wednesday of 2019 our theme was Elves and Santa as it was near Christmas. Freshers were elves so for my outfit I wore a green bodysuit from PrettyLittleThing and a red sequin tutu with a black belt from Luvyababes and some green grips in my hair, I know very elf like..
